Katy Perry Revealed What It Is Like to Be the Most Hated Celebrity in the World, and How She Managed to Cope With It

Being a star doesn’t mean only a luxurious lifestyle and everyone’s love. The situation can change any day. Katy Perry once compared fame to a wild animal — it can love you, and then it can attack you.

This singer knows quite well what it’s like to be in the spotlight. She’s known love and hatred from millions of people. At one point, criticism from fans and colleagues made her one of the most hated stars. But she learned how to deal with it.

The other side of fame

Katy Perry is definitely the face of the musical scene of the 2010s. The singer has become one the best-selling music artists of all time — her songs broke different records many times, and Katy was included in the lists of highest-earning women in the music industry for a few years in a row.

However, all this accolades usually come along with the public’s close attention. And according to Perry, it’s really hard to be always in the spotlight. When she and her husband separated, a lot of paparazzi and just ordinary people felt alright to interfere in her life.

“I’m tired of being famous already! But I’m not tired of creating. Fame is, I think, just a disgusting by-product of what I do,” Katy says. She also doesn’t like the fact that fans don’t tend to see a normal person in her, preferring to worship her. When meeting her fans, she wants to be approachable and relatable, but people start crying when seeing her, and instead of having a conversation, Perry has to pacify them.

They say there is a thin line between love and hate. The singer has changed internally and externally over the years. And those, who worshipped Katy in the beginning, have become her most strict critics. This happened after her album Witness was released. Fans didn’t want to accept the singer’s new looks. This hatred became an eye-opener to Perry, who had to discover the other side of fame, “People don’t let people grow. They just want a time capsule. And they want them to be one thing. And we have to start reimagining that.”

There are also some famous people among Perry’s haters who used to be her friends in the past. Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Calvin Harris, and Lady Gaga, all of them shared negative comments about Perry as a person and a singer.

This all resulted in the fact that the singer decided to drastically change her lifestyle. She did everything possible to shy away from the spotlight. For example, every day while leaving her home, Perry would wear the same tracksuit. This way, she made the paparazzi’s work useless because who would buy the same photos over and over again?

Over time, Perry found a companion in misfortune with whom she could share her feelings. It was Sia. Sia became a role model for Perry in how to hide her private life from prying eyes. Sia knows a thing or two about how to create a protective barrier that doesn’t let others see her real self. She taught Perry not to listen to the crowd but to follow the calling of her heart.

How to deal with it

“I stopped Googling myself a long time ago, and I don’t read comments. So if I’m on social media, I post and ghost,” Perry says. She doesn’t let anyone judge her looks, her work, or her life. The singer leaves these things to her family, friends, and personal therapist.

In order to cope with stress, she drinks a cup of water right after waking up and practices morning meditation and yoga. The singer also doesn’t forget to take care of herself and tries to allocate time for a massage session, bicycle ride, or walk, in her busy schedule. Another thing that Katy does every morning is thank fate for her life with all its advantages and disadvantages.

She keeps her main purpose in mind.

Even though it may seem that the entire world is against you, Katy tries to keep in mind what she works for. If she wasn’t that popular, she wouldn’t be able to do so much good for this world. Right now, the singer is applying all her efforts to Firework Foundation, which helps kids from underserved communities get access to the arts.

And this is just a small part of Perry’s charitable work. She supports children in Madagascar and Vietnam by providing them with food and education, is involved in building shelters for youth, and raises money for people suffering from AIDS and cancer. In 2016, the singer received the Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award for her support of the world’s most vulnerable children. This all would have been impossible without Perry’s fame which she had suffered from for years.

In 2020, Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom had a daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom. And now Katy has another reason to find a proper balance between herself and her popularity. The singer prefers to keep her child away from the spotlight. She just wants to enjoy her new role.

In a recent interview, the celebrity revealed that her life was revolving around her daughter now. She takes her to classes and tries to spend as much time with Daisy as possible. And when someone recognizes her while she’s with her daughter, she says, “Hi, nice to meet you. I care about my kid and take her to classes.”

Do you think fame is a good thing or a bad thing?
