The Love Story of Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons Who Didn’t Have to Tie the Knot to Call Each Other Husband and Wife

Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons are among the sweetest Hollywood couples, who look wonderful together not only in real life but also on screen. It’s interesting that they were both nominated for an Oscar for their work in the movie The Power of the Dog where they played a couple in love.

At CHEERY, we decided to learn the love story of this couple who’ve proved friendship can become the beginning of true love.

Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons first met during the filming of the series Fargo where they played a married couple. But they didn’t get together right away. According to Dunst, she immediately realized Plemons was her soulmate, “I knew he would be in my life forever. It was one of those connections where you just know.”

When the filming ended, the former co-workers often talked to each other over FaceTime. Kirsten revealed that they both missed each other very much, “I missed being around him. And he did, too. We didn’t get together until the following March when we’d had the time to realize how much we missed each other and how much we wanted to be in each other’s lives.”

In spring 2016, the actors were rumored to be going out together, but neither Dunst nor Plemons confirmed their relationship. The actors were very secretive, and even attended events, like the Emmy Awards separately. However, according to some insiders, Kirsten and Jesse appeared to be very much a couple when they were away from cameras.

At the beginning of 2017, there was a wave of rumors that Jesse Plemons and Kirsten Dunst got engaged. But, of course, the actors refused to give any comments on that. Rumors intensified when a beautiful ring was noticed on Kirsten’s fourth finger. Then, in the summer, during an interview with Jimmy Fallon, the actress finally opened up, and confessed she and Plemons had got engaged, “We got together a year afterward. We became really good friends first.”

A year later, fans found out that Kirsten and Jesse were expecting their first child. When Dunst gave birth to their son, she confessed she was worried about her pregnancy, “I thought I would have a hard time getting pregnant, but it was a surprise. If I hadn’t met Jesse, I would have frozen my eggs. But it feels like I lucked out.”

In 2019, everyone found out why Dunst loved her partner so much. When she got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Jesse gave a touching speech in her honor. “You are truly one of a kind and the best woman I know,” he said. “I’m so lucky to have you in my life, and Hollywood Boulevard is so lucky to have you on its sidewalks.”

During his speech, Plemons also recalled the first meeting with his future fiancée, and said that it was love at first sight, “I looked into her eyes and saw the beautiful, sweet, unguarded welcoming human being she is. It was truly in an instant and immediately my nerves and anxiety dissolved and I knew everything was going to be alright.”

In 2021, Dunst announced that she was pregnant again, and a few months later, she gave birth to their second son. But the couple had some other news for their fans.

Dunst and Plemons starred together in the new Netflix movie The Power of the Dog. In the movie, Jesse Plemons’ character falls for Kirsten Dunst’s character. Just like it happened in real life. In an interview, Plemons revealed that he admired his partner’s acting talent and wanted to work alongside her in other projects too, “I don’t wanna do another project without her. It’s just the best.”

Kirsten and Jesse were engaged for 5 years and eventually got married in July 2022. Not long before their wedding, Kirsten said, “We call each other husband and wife. But we have to get married at this point. It’s ridiculous. We just haven’t planned a wedding. I didn’t want to be pregnant, get married, have a party, and not be able to have fun with everybody.” So, finally, their wish came true. They married in a private ceremony in Jamaica.
