15 Famous Women Who Encourage People to Accept Themselves as They Are

We all look different and live different lives. But we all have wrinkles, weight fluctuations, scars, stretch marks, and dark spots. They are normal but we used to be ashamed of these natural things due to unrealistic beauty standards.

At CHEERY, we decided to find out what celebrities show us as an example of self-acceptance and self-love.

Perhaps, many of you’ve noticed that the actress who starred in the TV series Once Upon a Time and Why Women Kill has a scar on her upper lip. The actress revealed that she got it in childhood.

When she was 10, she was sitting on a bench with her cat. Suddenly, a dog appeared and attacked them. This was how she got her scar. Lana says that she used to hate it in the past, but now she can’t imagine herself without it.

Cindy Crawford

Many people associate Cindy Crawford’s name with fashion and the runway. And fashion is associated with perfect bodies. But Cindy has never been to follow standards and is fine with the fact that she has cellulite.

In an interview, she said, “I have cellulite. I admit it. But sometimes I just say, ’Screw it, I am going to wear a bikini.’” The model believes that it’s normal not to look like 20 when you’re 43 especially after having children, and we can’t disagree with it.

Yami Gautam

Indian actress Yami Gautam revealed that she had always been ashamed of her keratosis pilaris and had to retouch her photos to conceal it. Keratosis pilaris is a skin condition that causes dry, rough patches and tiny bumps on some parts of the body. She has suffered from this condition since her teenage years because there is no treatment for it. Eventually, she found the courage to love and accept her skin wholeheartedly and was happy to share this with her fans.

Everyone gets wrinkles sooner or later — the main thing is not their appearance but our attitude to them. Reese Witherspoon has nothing against them. She believes that she’s worked hard to get each of her wrinkles, and thanks to them she can play women who have lived more and gone through a lot of changes.

Not so long ago, Florence attended an event wearing a transparent dress. After that, she wrote a post on her Instagram where she emphasized how important it is to accept your body no matter what. The young actress shared that she used to feel uncomfortable about her body when she was a teenager. But now she can’t be hurt by the comments that her breast is too small and that there’s something wrong with her body.

Elle Fanning

A couple of years ago, the actress shared on her Instagram that she has bad eczema sometimes. She revealed that she has sensitive skin and gets flare-ups in the shape of red itching spots from time to time. Elle decided to post her photo with eczema to show that there are many people who have this problem, including herself. Fanning tries to accept her skin condition and even makes fun of it. For example, the eczema spots on her eyelids reminded her of eye-shadow.

P!nk

The singer shared that she sometimes feels frustrated when she looks in the mirror and sees her wrinkles and how her face has changed with age. But her self-esteem doesn’t depend on her looks. It is much more important for her that her children can see her true emotions and not a person whose face doesn’t move.

Recently, Jamie revealed that she had felt uncomfortable about her body since her teenage years. But after playing in one of her latest movies, she realized that she didn’t want to hide anything anymore. This is what she said, “I want there to be no concealing of anything. I’ve been sucking my stomach in since I was 11 when you start being conscious of boys and bodies, and the jeans are super tight. I very specifically decided to relinquish and release every muscle I had that I used to clench to hide the reality. That was my goal. I have never felt more free creatively and physically.”

Mirren has been wearing her hair gray for years. This all started when she played Queen Charlotte in the movie The Madness of King George where she had to wear a white wig. She liked the style so much that decided to go gray in real life too.

Lupita Nyong’o

Lupita Nyong’o doesn’t feel bothered if she adds some extra pounds, and posts her photos on her Instagram without hiding her body. She believes that beauty is not about your body, it’s about something else, “My mother would say to me, ‘You can’t eat beauty. It doesn’t feed you.’ And these words plagued and bothered me; I didn’t understand them until finally, I realized that beauty was not a thing that I could acquire or consume, it was something that I just had to be.”

Sofía Vergara

Once the actress posted her photo where you can see a scar on her neck. Sofia revealed that when she was 28, she was diagnosed with cancer. Luckily, she managed to beat the disease. This scar reminds her that she came out as a winner in that battle. In her post, Vergara said, “I’m lucky and grateful to be in a position to share my story and say: early prevention is so important! Schedule your annual check-up for this year if you haven’t already.”

Martha Hunt

Martha is a top model and one of Victoria’s Secret Angels. Throughout her career, she has worked for many luxury brands, and the scar on her back has never stopped her from following her dream. She got it due to scoliosis she had to deal with when she was a teenager. Hunt doesn’t try to hide it and encourages other people to proudly wear their scars.

Lena Dunham

In childhood, Lena had to deal with criticism. She was teased for her teeth, belly, and knees. However, she didn’t hate what she looked like — she hated the culture that was telling her to hate it. Now Dunham is self-confident and regularly posts her photos online without using multiple filters. In 2017, she thanked Glamour magazine for placing her photo on the cover without retouching her cellulite.
