14 Celebs Who Stopped Restricting Their Diets and Have No Regrets
Nowadays, people often follow different dietary practices and limit the consumption of certain foods in their diet. Some make this decision for ethical reasons, others are concerned about their health. However, for some people, including celebrities, this dietary pattern can cause problems, forcing them to go back to their usual eating habits; even if this may cause controversial reactions in others.
Anne Hathaway
Anne Hathaway went vegan in preparation for the filming of The Dark Knight Rises. Even at her wedding, only vegan food was served. That all changed during dinner at an Icelandic restaurant, where Anne went with her husband, and actor Matt Damon.
The latter ordered food for the whole party and Hathaway ended up with a piece of salmon in front of her. She tasted the fish, and it was as if her brain had rebooted. The actress later recalled, “I just didn’t feel good or healthy, felt not strong” until she started eating meat and fish again. So she has no plans to go back to veganism just yet.
Samuel L. Jackson
In 2015, a doctor advised the actor to go on a strict vegan diet, to lower his blood pressure and cholesterol levels. As a result, Jackson lost about 19kg in seven months. Producers of the film, in which Samuel was filming at the time, threatened that if he continues to lose weight, they will have to cast someone else for the role. And so, Jackson happily went back to eating meat.
Jennifer Lopez
The actress and singer followed a strict vegan diet for 22 days. According to her, she enjoyed it very much and has never felt so good. But at the end of that period, she began slowly putting animal proteins back into her diet. Lopez still tries to avoid animal fats but allows herself fish and dairy products.
Derek Hough
Derek Hough likes to experiment with different dietary plans and workouts. At one point, he tried being vegan. He says it was easy enough to stick to, especially since there are plenty of vegan-friendly establishments in Los Angeles. But Hough found it hard to give up his favorite foods, and if he feels like eating meat, he’ll do it. However, he is now trying to reduce the number of protein products in his diet.
Kristen Bell
Kristen Bell has been a vegetarian since she was 11 years old. In 2012, the actress and her husband, Dax Shepard, decided to go vegan after watching the documentary Forks Over Knives. But Kristen realized that this dietary choice wasn’t a good fit for her. When she was pregnant with her first child, daughter Lincoln, she felt she wasn’t getting enough calories. This worried Bell, and she gave up veganism, going back to being vegetarian. Shepard, on the other hand, admitted to eating chicken again.
Jared Leto
Jared Leto tries to eat mostly plant-based foods, but he can’t describe himself as a vegan or vegetarian. The actor occasionally adds fish and dairy products to his diet. “I’m actually a ‘cheagan’ — a cheating vegan. If someone’s mom made a cookie and handed it to me, I’d probably take a bite, or if I’m in Alaska and there’s wild salmon out of the river, I’d probably eat it.” — said Leto.
Zooey Deschanel
Zooey Deschanel decided to go vegan after being inspired by her sister Emily. Especially, as at this time it was discovered, that Zooey was allergic to dairy products, eggs, and gluten. But veganism left too short of a list of foods that she could eat. She gave up on this idea at a sushi bar when she realized how frustrating veganism was for her.
Chris Hemsworth
Chris Hemsworth decided to give up food containing animal protein in 2018 while preparing for the filming of Avengers: Infinity War. It was an experiment; the actor and his personal trainer wanted to see if he could keep fit by eating only plant-based foods. However, Chris soon returned to his favorite meat dishes. But he did make a point of sticking to a vegan diet on the morning of his upcoming kiss scene with a devout vegan Natalie Portman.
Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie decided to give up veganism when she realized, that it was bad for her health. Without animal proteins, she lacked nutrients in her diet. “I joke that a big juicy steak is my beauty secret. But seriously, I love red meat. I was a vegan for a long time, and it nearly killed me. I found I was not getting enough nutrition”, the actress confessed.
Lea Michele
The actress and singer usually follow a vegan, or vegetarian diet, but occasionally change it up. She likes to indulge in meat dishes and pizza, on special occasions. Lea tries not to keep such products at home, in order to eat healthy and wholesome food whenever possible.
Ellen DeGeneres
The famous presenter was vegan for eight years but then decided to add animal protein to her diet. Ellen said that there was no special reason for this, she felt great and didn’t have any dietary-related health problems. DeGeneres just felt like trying a piece of fish, and now she allows herself the occasional dish containing chicken eggs.
Denise Richards
The actress was vegetarian for a long time, but not so long ago she started eating meat and fish again. She feels great about it and now has decided to only give up gluten. Richards grew up in the Midwest, so she’s used to meat and potato dishes. Denise snacks on fruit and veg during the day, and prepares something heartier for her husband and daughters, for dinner.
Channing Tatum
The actor honestly tried to stick to a vegan diet for six months, because he was asked to do so by his wife Jenna Dewan. But unfortunately, Tatum can’t stand vegetables, which made his diet rather sparse at that time. So Jenna decided not to pressure him, and simply let her husband be himself.
Miley Cyrus
After being vegan for six years, the singer decided to give it up, as the lack of animal protein in her diet made it hard for her to concentrate and give it her all during live performances. Cyrus said: “I was vegan for a very long time and I’ve had to introduce fish and omegas into my life because my brain wasn’t functioning properly.” Miley admits that when she was vegan, she used to judge other people’s dietary choices very harshly. She now realizes, that such an approach was not a good idea.
If following a certain diet not only makes you feel better but also allows you to take care of the environment, that’s great. It’s just worth listening to your body and choosing the option that is right for You.
