Alessandra Ambrosio Isn’t Chasing Her Youth and Believes It’s Perfectly Normal for Your Appearance to Change With Age
Alessandra Ambrosio is considered a fashion icon. She is known for her work with the lingerie brand Victoria’s Secret, where she was an “Angel” from 2004 to 2017. During the 2011 show, Alessandra wore the heaviest wings ever made for the show, weighing 30 lbs. And at the peak of her career, in 2012, she was ranked 5th on Forbes magazine’s list of the highest-paid models. And she’s been able to achieve all of this thanks to her exceptional dedication to work and belief in her abilities, even when other models would be hesitant to step onto the catwalk.
Alessandra is one of the most famous Victoria’s Secret Angels.
Alessandra Corine Ambrósio was born on the 11th of April, 1981, in Erechim, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. At the age of 12, she started attending a modeling course, and at 14, she became one of the finalists in the national Elite Model Look contest, after which she was invited to take part in a photo shoot for the cover of the Brazilian magazine Elle. There, she was noticed by the brand Guess and got offered a role in their advertisement campaign. After that, Ambrosio started appearing in promotions and fashion shows for many high-end brands and even on the covers of various international magazines, including Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, and Vogue.
But Alessandra’s most famous achievement is her work for Victoria’s Secret. She became one of their “Angels” and featured in some of their most striking shows. In 2005, she stepped onto the catwalk in lingerie made entirely of candy, and in 2006, she was chosen as the first spokesmodel for their Pink line. The model was so devoted to her work that in 2008 she appeared on the catwalk just three months after the birth of her first child. In this way, she demonstrated that after childbirth a woman’s body is still beautiful and deserves to be honored.
Pregnancy was no obstacle to a successful fashion show.
In 2011, shortly before another Victoria’s Secret show, Alessandra found out that she was pregnant with her second child. The model felt at a loss and worried that she wouldn’t be able to take part in the show. However, the pregnancy was going smoothly and Alessandra decided that this was no reason to sit at home and stop doing what she loves.
On top of having broken the stereotype that a pregnant model cannot take part in fashion shows, Alessandra made the new show one of the most striking ever. She walked the runway carrying the heaviest wings ever created for the show. They weighed 30 lbs, were made entirely of copper, and were decorated with a multitude of different colored gems.
She enjoys raising two adorable children.
Before meeting the father of her future children, businessman Jamie Mazur, Alessandra had several short-term relationships. They all ended due to the model’s busy schedule and her dedication to work. She kept her new relationship secret for some time, but in 2008 it became known that Jamie had finally conquered Alessandra’s heart. That same year, they had their first child, daughter Anja Louise. And four years later, they welcomed into the world their son Noah Phoenix.
Unfortunately, in early 2018, the couple split up. Alessandra is now raising two children and enjoying the responsibilities of motherhood. The model regularly posts photos with her daughter and son on her Instagram page. In their free time, they go to the beach, go on boat trips, celebrate holidays together, and visit family.
She’s wary about plastic surgery.
Alessandra doesn’t support the hype around plastic surgery since she once had a negative experience. As a child, she worried about her ears, thinking they stuck out too much. So after talking to her parents, she decided to have them corrected with a small procedure. However, the surgery was botched, and the girl had to undergo several more procedures. The result, according to the model, was still unsatisfactory, but she doesn’t want to keep repeating the negative experience. “Doctors say they can fix them, but cosmetic surgery freaks me out now,” Alessandra says.
She fully accepts aging as something inevitable.
Although Ambrosio’s job is to show off her impeccable looks, she is quite philosophical when it comes to age-related changes. “Growing old is inevitable. I’m not worried,” she says, adding that she prefers to simply take care of herself without overdoing it or making herself uncomfortable. To maintain her figure, Alessandra doesn’t stick to strict diets but opts for balanced meals. Her diet consists mainly of fruits, vegetables, juices, fish, and meat. But the model considers sun protection to be her main beauty secret: “At the beach, I always wear a big sun hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen”.
She left the runway to start a new chapter in her career.
Colorful fashion shows have always been the brightest part of Alessandra’s career. However, at the start of it, she tried her hand at acting. In 2006, the model had a small role in Casino Royale, where she briefly appeared as a tennis player. And in 2007, she starred in an episode of How I Met Your Mother, where she appeared as herself, along with her colleagues Adriana Lima, Miranda Kerr, and others. But Alessandra’s major acting breakthrough was her role in the Brazilian telenovela Verdades Secretas in 2015. She played the role of a former top model, Samia, who was also one of the main character’s lovers. Her most recent work to date was in an episode of American Housewife.
Alessandra has found the television industry so fascinating that she decided to dedicate herself to it. In 2017, after many years of collaboration, she took part in a Victoria’s Secret show for the last time, taking to the catwalk in a glamorous rock-style outfit. Although you can still see the model in advertising campaigns for other brands, she is now more involved in her acting career and developing her own clothing brand, Ále by Alessandra. Given the dedication and unwavering hard work that Ambrosio has demonstrated over her 2-decade modeling career, we’re sure she’ll find success in her new field as well.
