Melanie Griffith Was Married 4 Times, and Now She’s Friends With Her Exes and Doesn’t Think She Has to Be Married to Be Happy
Melanie Griffith knows first-hand that after the wedding, it’s not always “happily ever after.” She’s divorced 4 times, yet she still manages to be friends with all of her exes. Some of them still claim that they love her. Now, the actress is convinced that marriage is not vital for a relationship, and she enjoys being a single woman.
Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson.
In her private life, Melanie has always done what she wanted. She was married 4 times, twice to the same man. Her first marriage with the lady-killer from Miami Vice, Don Johnson, lasted just months. And in 1989, 13 years after the divorce, they got married again, and gave birth to the star of Fifty Shades of Grey, Dakota Johnson.
Even though they got divorced again in 1996, the actress doesn’t have any grudges against Don. On the contrary, she says they are “imprinted on each other.”
Melanie Griffith and Steven Bauer.
In between her 2 marriages with Don Johnson, the actress was married to Steven Bauer, an aspiring actor. The young people were just at the start of their careers and they didn’t have money. So Steven worked as a delivery guy, and Melanie lived off of unemployment benefits. But the actress remembers that period with nostalgia and describes it as wonderful. Steven and Melanie also became parents: they had a son named Alexander.
Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas.
In her 4th marriage, Melanie was married to Antonio Banderas, and had a daughter, Stella. The way they met was very memorable. The actor managed to ask Melanie about her age in the first phrase he said. It was very rude, but the actress says, “there was something about him.” They were married for almost 2 decades, but they never got over their differences. In 2014, they got divorced, but they are still close. Years later, Antonio still talks about his feelings for Melanie.
Melanie says that she’s close with all of her ex-husbands. Maybe the secret of such good relationships is that the actress has never let anyone use or humiliate her. Melanie saw such behavior towards her mother and decided it wasn’t what she wanted on her path.

After such a whirlwind of experiences, Melanie knows that getting married is not necessary in the modern world.
The actress wouldn’t mind falling in love and having a relationship again. But it’s not her goal: she is living the life she always wanted. Melanie doesn’t ask her kids to introduce her to anyone, and she doesn’t use Tinder. The actress is happy being single and she proves that even if you are single, it doesn’t mean you are alone.
What’s your attitude to marriage? In your opinion, should a relationship always result in a marriage, or is it not as important as it used to be?
