14 Times Celebs Got Into Embarrassing Situations but Came Out of Them With Their Head Held High

When it comes to important occasions, all stars pray that everything will be flawless, and their look will be the highlight of the evening. But even our idols can get into messy situations, often because of treacherous outfits that tend to burst at the seams, slip down, or show more than the celebrity intended, all at the most inopportune moment.

Salma Hayek

For this year’s BAFTAs, the actress wore a lavish velvet dress with a high slit. At one point, the wind lifted Hayek’s skirt, exposing the black lace underneath, making her bend forward and hold down the hem.

The star treated the little mishap with humor. She posted a photo of this moment on her Instagram page, ironically captioning it, “Sometimes in an effort to cover something other things show up more.”

Dakota Johnson

In early 2022, the actress was a guest on The Late Late Show With James Corden. For this shoot, Johnson chose a red dress, which was so short that she had to cover herself with her hands while sitting down on the sofa, so as not to accidentally show more than she intended.

The host asked his guest if she was comfortable, offering her his own jacket, but she jokingly responded “I’m okay. It’s nothing nobody hasn’t already seen.”

Miley Cyrus

Minutes after the stroke of midnight during the NBC Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party, just as she was performing one of her hits, the star was unexpectedly let down by her silver top, which nearly came off. Cyrus held it up just in time, quickly sorting herself out by retreating backstage and soon returning in her red blazer.

“Everybody’s definitely looking at me now,” the singer joked during a break, referring to the lyrics of her hit song.

Idris Elba

At the BRIT Awards 2022, the star found himself in a slightly embarrassing situation. Elba went on stage to present the award to Adele, not noticing that his fly was unzipped. He tried to hide it by covering it with his cue cards, but by then the audience had already noticed.

Jenna Fischer

The embarrassment for the star of The Office didn’t happen in the middle of the event, but right ahead of it. Before filming Jimmy Kimmel Live, the zip on Fischer’s dress broke, and since there was no time to find another outfit, the actress had to wear a bath towel for the show.

Hayley Atwell

The star of Captain America: The First Avenger had her own little mishap at the 2015 BAFTA Awards. For the event, Atwell chose an overly tight dress, and at one point it started to literally come apart at the seams.

The star had a minor embarrassment at the 2022 Emmy Awards. For the event, Gomez chose a spectacular white dress that just wouldn’t stop riding up. “A lot of people saw something they didn’t want to see,” the actress and singer admitted on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

For the premiere of the feature film Veronica Mars, the actress chose a delicately pink dress with a daring slit. The dress kept “opening up” every time she moved, so Bell had to keep holding on to it.

In January 2022, the star appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon wearing mismatched shoes. And it’s possible that no one would have even noticed if the host hadn’t posted an excerpt from the episode to Instagram, captioning it “When you rush out of the house with the wrong shoes.”

For her appearance on the red carpet at the 2016 American Music Awards, the star chose a dress with an extremely high slit. To prevent any mishaps, Teigen had to constantly hold the dress down, or cover herself with her hands while moving and posing.

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon seems to attract celebrity wardrobe malfunctions. Rosamund Pike was not spared this fate. When the actress got to be a guest on one of the episodes, her black dress split down the back. “I might have just fallen apart from behind! My dress might have split,” the star exclaimed, astonished.
