20+ Photos That Show the Other Side of Working at Restaurants or Cafés

The visitors of cafés and restaurants usually see smiling waiters and sleek interiors. And all the kitchen processes are typically hidden. But there are many things to see there: colleagues getting inside huge mixers, chefs cooking spoons, and staff catching a bird that accidentally got in.

We at CHEERY had never thought about what happens in restaurant kitchens. But thanks to these photos, we now want to meet a chef that could give us a tour around their workplace.

“Prep guy left a spoon in the fish batter. Figured he was saving it to eat later, so we plated it for him.”

“It’s gonna be stupid hot tomorrow. I popped these in the freezer tonight for you.”

“Our 160qt mixer, Pete, broke down, so we won’t be able to use it. I did the one thing I’ve been dying to do for years since he arrived.”

“I knocked over the granola during brunch today. Whew.”

“When you’re making a grilled cheese, but then the health inspector comes in, so you forget about it.”

“Our kitchen only uses wood fire to cook during service. Some days are hotter than others. Saturday was hot.”

“Alright, so it’s official. Prep guy just thinks you put ‘th’ after the date, no matter what day it is.”

“Someone ordered too much oregano right before inventory.”

“Cracked 6 dozen eggs and had 3 double yolks, two of which were from the same carton. Not a single yolk broke, which is pretty wild even.”

«Anyone else like a neat stack?»

“24 bain-maries of waffles, prepared with our finest paint mixer.”

“Sliced tomato’s for burgers as prepared by my colleagues.”

Onion monolith.

The 1920’s set up we still use.

“2.5 kg of kidney beans... Just water. I told chef if he wanted the picture for the supplier. He said, leave it, they will never believe us.”

“Always prepared to chop onions.”

“Got to perform emergency surgery tonight. The patient made a full recovery.”

«Maybe shift was over?»

“I’m starting to think we need new pans.”

“Meat jacuzzi.”

“Coworker likes to use this comically large wisk. I feel like the handle is just too big.”

“I sent the order guide to the wrong printer.”

Do you have anything you can tell about the behing-the-scenes of your job? There must be something interesting happening during the day!
