14 Stars Who Regret Getting Plastic Surgery and Aren’t Ashamed to Admit It

Many celebrities openly admit to undergoing cosmetic procedures, or even entrusting their appearance to plastic surgeons in order to always look like “a million dollars”. And while some stars are happy with the results, there are those who regret having changed their appearance, and now openly admit to it.

Here at CHEERY, we’ve decided to find out which celebrities had regrets about getting cosmetic surgery, coming to the conclusion that they prefer their natural appearance. And at the end, you’ll find a bonus entry that proves that sometimes even the most seemingly harmless procedures can have an unexpected effect.

In an interview with Vogue, model Bella Hadid opened up and said she was very insecure as a teenager, “I was the uglier sister. I was the brunette. I wasn’t as cool as Gigi.” So, at a young age, Bella had a nose job but now regrets having made this decision. Now, she admits, “I wish I had kept the nose of my ancestors.”

Linda Evangelista

Recently, supermodel Linda Evangelista bitterly stated that she was “brutally disfigured” after a CoolSculpting procedure, also known as “fat-freezing”, which is promoted as a non-invasive alternative to liposuction. Well, three months after the procedure, Linda started noticing bulges on her chin, hips, and breasts — the areas that underwent treatment. Soon the bulges became more swollen, hardened, and went numb.

Linda first tried to fix the situation herself — she went on a diet and started exercising more. Finally, she went to her doctor and, sobbing, took off her dressing gown in front of him, saying, “I haven’t eaten, I’m starving. What am I doing wrong?” He diagnosed her with paradoxical adipose hyperplasia (PAH) and told her that no amount of dieting and no amount of exercise would ever fix this. She simply happened to be unlucky enough to be in the 1% of people for whom this procedure is not advised.

Kim Kardashian

The star opened up about the fact that she regretted getting Botox injections in 2010. “On the show, you saw I had some bruising around my eyes after the procedure, which is totally natural, but because I hadn’t looked into the side effects, I freaked out.” Kardashian goes on to admit that she probably shouldn’t have resorted to Botox at the time at all, “I am not against Botox, and I would never judge anyone else for getting any kind of surgical or non-surgical procedure, but I think when you’re young there are other ways you can look after your skin. Botox just wasn’t necessary for me at this age.”

The Friends star regrets that at one point she decided to resort to injections and fillers: “I didn’t realize that I’m actually looking really strange with injections and doing stuff to my face that I would never do now.” She also noted that the fillers robbed her face of mobility.

Jamie Lee Curtis

Jamie Lee Curtis has repeatedly spoken out against standards imposed on female beauty. The actress is in favor of natural looks, as she had a bad experience with appearance enhancement after some minor surgery for her “puffy eyes”. According to the actress, this “didn’t work” and moreover, led to quite unpleasant consequences. Jamie Lee also noted that “the current trend of fillers and procedures, and this obsession with filtering, and the things that we do to adjust our appearance on Zoom are wiping out generations of beauty,” baldly adding, “once you mess with your face, you can’t get it back.

Heidi Montag

Last year Heidi Montag honestly said she sometimes regrets having entrusted her appearance to plastic surgeons in the past. According to the actress, when she was 23, she underwent 10 procedures, including a brow lift, chin reduction, breast augmentation, liposuction, and Botox injections. Today Heidi admits that “I was way too young to make such a life-changing decision” and that it has all taken a toll on her health.

Crystal Hefner

Not long ago, model Crystal Hefner published a candid post on her Instagram with the words: “I removed everything fake from my body and deleted all my old photos. I am more authentic, vulnerable, and feel that I belong more to myself. I am mine”. Crystal previously admitted that her fat transfer surgery almost turned out to be a tragedy. Hefner also decided to have her breast implants removed because they were “slowly poisoning her”.

Dana Delany

After a botched Botox injection, Desperate Housewives star Dana Delany has decided to never have any major cosmetic surgery. “My dermatologist was saying, ‘You should try it.’ He injected my forehead, hit a nerve, and created a huge hematoma,” the actress shares. “The nerve has been dead ever since. It affected the muscle in my right eye, so my eye has started to droop a little bit.”

Tori Spelling

In an interview, the actress said she regrets having once decided to get breast implants: “Well I got my boobs done in my early 20s and if I had known it would or could possibly impact the production of milk, I would’ve never had them done.” Tori obviously knows what she’s talking about, as she’s a mom of five.

Jane Fonda

Jane Fonda has never hidden the fact that she has been a patient in plastic surgery clinics. But, at one point, she admitted she wasn’t proud of the fact and wished she had been brave enough to let herself age naturally. “On one level, I hate the fact that I’ve had the need to alter myself physically to feel that I’m okay.” Jane also said that much of her decision to have the surgery was due to public pressure: “I was taught to think that if I wanted to be loved, I had to be thin and pretty. That leads to a lot of trouble”.

Gisele Bündchen

After breastfeeding her two children, supermodel Gisele Bündchen decided to get breast implants. “I felt very vulnerable because I can work out, I can eat healthy, but I can’t change the fact that both of my kids enjoyed the left boob more than the right,” Gisele said in an interview. However, immediately after the surgery, she regretted her decision: “When I woke up, I was like, ‘What have I done?’ I felt like I was living in a body I didn’t recognize. For the first year, I wore baggy clothes because I felt uncomfortable.”

Lisa Rinna

Actress Lisa Rinna was one of the first celebrities to admit that she once had lip injections but then regretted it, eventually getting the silicone filler removed. She had it injected into her upper lip and, at first, liked the result. However, she later faced criticism about her appearance, and 10 years later the silicone started to seep throughout her lip, forming scar tissue that was “hard and bumpy, like peas”.

The star later tried cortisone shots to reduce the swelling, but this made her lips look even worse. In the end, Rinna decided to restore her natural looks and was extremely pleased with the result: “You can see my teeth when I smile now, which you couldn’t do for a while. I’ve been smiling these big smiles!”

Yolanda Hadid

The mom of the famous models Bella and Gigi also doesn’t hide the fact that she has entrusted her appearance to plastic surgeons in the past. However, Yolanda has, since, decided she prefers natural beauty.

On her Instagram, Hadid wrote a very heartfelt post about her decision to give up cosmetic surgery: “Fifty-five and smiling from the inside out. Living in a body free of breast implants, fillers, Botox, extensions, and all the [nonsense] I thought I needed in order to keep up with what society conditioned me to believe that a woman should look like.”

Sharon Osbourne

East News, AP / East News

Sharon treats her long-standing love of plastic surgery with a sense of humor. In an interview, the TV presenter joked that she has now “got [her] third face”. However, at some point, the surgery results ceased to please her. Allegedly, one day she looked at photos of herself and realized that in many of the pictures her face looks plastic. She then said to herself, “Oh, dear. Oh, I should never have done that. Oh, that’s a bad one. No more. No more abuse.”

Bonus story: Britney Spears compared herself to a character in Just Go With It

A few months ago, Britney Spears revealed on her Instagram that she was considering getting Botox injected into her forehead once again, but is hesitant about the decision because of a previous bad experience. “The last time I did it my eyebrow was raised like the funny girl in the movie Just Go With It. For 3 weeks it wouldn’t come down, it stayed up there! Sounds funny but it actually wasn’t,” the star wrote.
