15+ Brides Who Tired of Typical White Wedding Dresses and Chose Something Rebellious

Many of us have gotten used to the fact that a bride should get married in a white dress while wearing a veil and carrying a bunch of flowers. But some women want to experience something a bit more unusual and memorable. Either way, what matters is that the bride and groom are happy.

At CHEERY, we love to see people who aren’t afraid to go beyond conventional social norms, especially when it comes to important events, such as a wedding.

“After over 2+ years of work, my dream blue wedding dress made it down the aisle!”

  • Ever since I was like 8 and I saw a woman walking down the road in a blue wedding dress I knew I wanted the same. It’s the best thing I’ve ever made and I couldn’t be happier! © bexyrex / Reddit

“I’ll never regret not wearing a white dress to my wedding.”

“I made my multicolored floral wedding dress.”

“I found this dress at a thrift store that mostly does furniture and it was the only one...and it was my size!”

“I broke my foot and am getting married next week. I decided to make my boot a little more bridal!”

“I said ’yes’ to this dress after almost losing hope, and I love it!”

“My mother (the sewing queen) and my mother-in-law (the crochet queen) made my wedding dress!”

This is a fully handmade dress.

“My sister-in-law wanted a wedding cape so she could pose as a villain during the whole process.”

“I sewed a wedding dress out of sweatpants.”

“Our photographer did gorgeous work, I can’t wait to see the rest!”

“My best friend just got married. He wanted an unusual wedding.”

“I made and hand-embroidered my wedding dress. I was inspired in part by the embroiderer who worked for Game of Thrones.

“The poinsettias are meant to represent my Mexican heritage, and the Turkish tulips at the bottom represent my husband’s.”

“This is my favorite picture from our wedding day. It was October in Colorado, so the temperature was perfect.”

“I finally got my shoes pretty much how I want them.”

“I found my perfect dress for $80 — now is the season to look for second-hand graduation dresses (especially if you’re not stuck on white).”

“This is my wedding dress. I felt like a woodland creature.”

This dress is made out of a vintage table cloth.

If you’ve already had a wedding, what dress did you wear? And if not, would you dare to try something as unusual as the outfits above? Tell us in the comments below.
