How the Most Prominent Movie Stars Didn’t Make Agent Cooper Happy, and He Found a Soulmate in His Chiropractor’s Office
Kyle MacLachlan started his movie career at the beginning of the 80s, and quickly became popular. We still remember his agent Cooper in Twin Peaks, and his Paul Atreides in Dune broke a lot of women’s hearts. But his personal life wasn’t going that well. He found happiness when he was around 40 years old.
We at CHEERY have checked Kyle MacLachlan’s Instagram page and felt happy for him. And then we realized that we just have to tell you the story of how he met the woman of his dreams.
Young Kyle got interested in acting thanks to his mother. She worked with young people and helped teenagers organize theater plays. And she insisted that he learned to play the piano and studied classical singing. So, MacLachlan was in University of Washington as a student of the Professional Actor Training Program.
After university, the actor debuted in Dune where he played the role of Paul Atreides.
The movie wasn’t very successful, but MacLachlan met director David Lynch, who basically gave him the ticket to the world of big cinema.
Now, the actor says, “He was the first director to believe in me. A true artist who continues to inspire. I’m grateful to call him my friend”.
Several years after the release of Dune, David Lynch invited the actor to play the main role in Blue Velvet. His partner on the set was Laura Dern, and they had feelings for each other and started dating.
This relationship lasted around 3,5 years, and in 1989, they decided to break up.
The couple was lucky to have a friendly relationship, which helped them when they met again in 2017 on the set of Twin Peaks: The Return. The director wanted the actors to have a romantic scene and show a burst of feelings.
Laura and Kyle felt a little awkward, but were able to give the right performance. Later, the actor said in an interview, “It was weird. We had a couple of laughs for sure”.
After breaking up with Laura Dern, the actor had a relationship with Lara Flynn Boyle, whom he worked on Twin Peaks with. The girl was 11 years younger than him and played Donna Hayward, the friend and classmate of Laura Palmer.
This romance didn’t last long either — they were together for around 2,5 years and broke up in 1992. It wasn’t an easy time: colleagues even said that due to some problems between them, some storylines of Twin Peaks were changed.
Almost right after the end of the relationship, Kyle started dating supermodel Linda Evangelista. This relationship started after the stars had a photoshoot together for a clothing store commercial.
Kyle and Linda were together for 6 years and even got engaged. The actor said that Linda opened the world of fashion for him and introduced him to all of her friends, and journalists would constantly see the couple kissing at different parties.
In 1992, their relationship ended. Later, MacLachlan said that he wasn’t ready to get married: he was okay with a simple romance. The stars remained friends and continued communicating with each other.
In April 1999, the actor had a meeting that split his life into before and after. The actor hurt his back and went to a chiropractor. While he was waiting in line, he met publicist Desiree Gruber.
Kyle MacLachlan talked to her a little, but was too shy to ask for her phone number. But soon after that, they met again, during a party. The actor said, “It seemed like the universe kept putting us in each other’s face, and I think I was mature enough to listen.”
The coincidences continued: Desiree lived in New York and Kyle got a role in Sex and the City that was filmed in New York. From 2000 to 2002, MacLachlan played doctor Trey MacDougal, ex-husband of one of the main characters, Charlotte York.
The actor moved to New York from Los Angeles and continued communicating with Desiree. Their relationship was becoming closer and closer, and on April 20, 2002, they got married. It was the first official marriage for both of them. Desiree was 34, and Kyle was 43.
6 years later, they had a son, Callum Lyon MacLachlan.
In order to spend more time with his son, the actor even decided to leave the famous series Desperate Housewives that was filmed in California. In 2010, after 4 years of playing a guy with a dark past, Orson Hodge, MacLachlan said it was difficult for him to travel between New York and Los Angeles.
Kyle chose his family and stopped appearing in the series on a regular basis. He was only in episodes, which made traveling so much easier.
Right now, MacLachlan has an Instagram page where he shares photos from his new projects and tells fans about his family.
Even though Kyle and Desiree are quite busy at work (he continues to work in the movie industry, and she is a famous TV producer and businesswoman) they spend a lot of time with their son.
In their free time, they love traveling. For example, in winter 2020, Kyle and Desiree wanted to show their son the beauty of their country and went to the State of Washington, saw Mount Rainier National Park, famous for the glaciers and waterfalls.
Not a long time ago, they celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary. That day, Kyle wrote in his social media page, “Twenty years with the most amazing woman I know. She has, in every way, enriched my life beyond measure and not a day goes by that I don’t count myself the luckiest guy in the world. Happy 20th, my love”.
