10 Hollywood Couples Who Kept Up Their Love Despite All Life’s Difficulties

There are many biography movies about celebrities that tell people about their secrets and how hard it was for them to become famous and successful. Of course, many of us would like to find out more about the personal lives of popular actors because we usually see the characters they portray, and their personal stories are left behind the scenes.

We at CHEERY honestly believe that in the future, directors will definitely use this chance and make a movie about the DeVittos, or Keanu Reeves and Alexandra Grant. Every single one of these love stories deserves to be a film.

Kurt Russel and Goldie Hawn

The actors first met at the set of a film in 1968 but there was no chemistry between them. Both got married to other people, had children, and then got divorced. Goldie was married twice.

In 1983, they met at work again. This was when a romance started between them, and it’s still going on today. They had a child, but they didn’t get married. Kurt doesn’t want to get married and Goldie supports him, saying that being legally married gives no guarantees at all. So, this non-official relationship is stronger than many actual marriages.

Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh

The actors portrayed a couple in Fire Over England and their on-screen romance developed into real feelings. But, unfortunately, they were both married at the time. Vivien was married to a lawyer that was 13 years older than her and they were raising 2 children, and Laurence was married to actress Jill Esmond.

None of them granted their lovers a divorce, so Vivien and Laurence had to date in secret. They managed to marry officially only several years later — in 1940. They had a creative tandem: they directed plays, were in movies, and appeared in public together. But Vivien was depressed because they couldn’t have a child together, so in 1960, they decided to break up. Soon after that, both of them started new relationships, but they didn’t regret the time they had spent together.

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson

Tom and Rite met in 1981 when they were working on Bosom Buddies and fell in love with each other. But Hanks was already married to actress Samantha Lewis and Rita spent a few years waiting for him to leave the family. They were able to get married in 1988. Wilson became a stepmother for Tom’s 2 children, and then they had 2 more sons.

In 2002, they were the producers of the comedy My Big Fat Greek Wedding that is partially about their love story. It turned out that they had different nationalities and religions, but it didn’t stop them from becoming a couple that has been together for over 30 years.

Clark Gable and Carole Lombard

East News

This marriage was the second for Lombard and the third for Gable. The actors met on the set in 1932 and after working together, they just said goodbye to each other. But 4 years later, they accidentally met each other at a party and this was when it all started. Gable spent the money he earned for Gone with the Wind on the divorce lawsuits and after that, Lombard and Gable were able to get married.

They bought a ranch in California and started breeding chickens and horses there. Unfortunately, Carole’s life ended too early, and Gable was never able to recover from it.

Yes, their love story has already been filmed in 1976, but you would love to see a remake, right?

Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker

Before this marriage, Sarah Jessica Parker had a relationship with Robert Downey Jr. and Matthew Broderick was dating actress Jennifer Grey. And today, they are one of the strongest couples of Hollywood. They have been together for around 25 years. They have 3 children, 2 of which are twin daughters that were born from a surrogate mother.

By the way, the wedding they had in 1997, was quite original: the bride was wearing black, and the guests were convinced they had been invited to a regular party.

Jay-Z and Beyoncé

Their relationship started after Beyoncé appeared in Jay-Z’s clip as his girlfriend. For 6 years, they were successfully keeping their relationship in secret. Many fans had no idea they were together until they got married in 2008.

Their marriage had a lot of problems: from rumors about the husband’s infidelity to problems having a child. Right now, they are raising 3 children. Jay-Z devoted to his first daughter his song “Glory” which is about how long they expected her to be. And the song ended with her crying when she was just 2 days old.

Samuel L. Jackson and LaTanya Richardson

Samuel L. Jackson saw his own father only a couple of times. This is probably why he decided he would make a strong family and keep it no matter what. And this is exactly what happened. His marriage with LaTanya Richardson has lasted over 40 years.

They met in college in 1970, and got married 10 years later. They have overcome a lot of challenges together, but they had never thought of breaking up. Every July, they stop their work, take their daughter and go on vacation where there is only one rule — everyone sleeps as much as they want and when everybody wakes up, they sit at the table together.

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones

This couple paid 1,5 million pounds for their wedding. Tabloids even called it “Wedding of the year.” And it all started when, at a party, actor Danny DeVito decided to introduce young Zeta-Jones to the famous Michael Douglas.

They have been married for over 20 years. They have 2 children — son Dylan Michael and daughter Carys Zeta. But at a certain point, they had serious problems in their marriage: in 2010, Douglas was diagnosed with a very serious disease and Zeta-Jones suffered from severe depression. So, the couple decided to live separately for some time, but just 1 year later, they reunited and became even more tender with each other.

Interesting fact: Michael and Catherine were born on the same day, 25 years apart.

Keanu Reeves and Alexandra Grant

Keanu had his fair share of tragic events in his life — he first lost his future daughter and then his girlfriend died. But meeting artist Alexandra Grant brought him back to life. In 2009, they met at a social event and then decided to work on a book together. In 2016, Keanu and Alexandra met for work again and started a small publishing company.

Soon, they appeared on the red carpet of one of the festivals, and the media started talking about their romantic relationship. And it seems that Keanu had already proposed to Alexandra in secret. In March 2022, he was seen at a jewelry store where he was going to buy diamond rings.

Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman

AF Archive / Graham Whitby Boot / Mary Evans Picture Library / East News

The future spouses met accidentally: Rhea came to see her friend’s play and Danny was in it, too. 2 weeks later, they decided to live together but got married only after 11 years. They had 3 children: Lucy Chet, Grace Fan, and Jake.

The actors were in movies together. For example, you can see them in Matilda where they played the lousy parents of a gifted girl.

Everything was going well until 2012 when, after 30 years of marriage, Perlman and DeVito decided to break up. Soon after that, they made up but, 4 years later, there was another attempt to break up. In 2019, Rhea said in an interview that they decided not to get divorced.

Which of these possible movies would you definitely watch?
