10+ Mistakes in Popular Films And Animations That Most People Missed. But We Didn’t

The process of making a film or creating a feature-length animation is a long and time-consuming affair. And of course, it’s impossible to avoid all mistakes, which never go unnoticed by the attentive viewers. Understandably so, when this might mean that something suddenly disappears from the frame, or on the contrary, something extra appears — for example, a glimpse of the camera accompanied by the cameraman.

Here at CHEERY, we specifically reviewed our favourite films and animations in search for errors. But you know, these little flaws didn’t seem to spoil them at all, moreover, the little mistake we included as a bonus at the end of this article, even turned out to be prophetic!

Encanto

In this shot, you can clearly see that Mirabel is wearing glasses without dioptres, but with plain glass instead. If you look at the main character in a semi-profile, it becomes clear that the contours of her face are not distorted at all behind the lenses. And anyone who has been prescribed glasses either for near-sightedness or far-sightedness, knows for sure that this never happens.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood

It seems that Margot Robbie (in her role as Sharon Tate) has exactly the same problem as Mirabel. The protagonist’s facial lines aren’t distorted behind the lenses of her glasses, either.

And then there’s the CC & Company trailer in the cinema, where Sharon Tate herself came to see a film starring her. But that film didn’t come out until 1970, more than a year after the premiere of The Wrecking Crew, starring Tate. The actress, at that time, had unfortunately already passed away.

Jurassic Park

Look what happened to programmer Dennis Nedry’s bag. In the first shot, we see him holding it under his arm, but when the camera shows him from the back, the brown bag seems to disappear.

Death on the Nile

The banks of the river Nile are now about five miles away from the pyramids. Yes, scientists believe that in ancient times the river could have been much closer, allowing huge stone blocks to be transported. But the action in this film takes place in 1937, and it’s highly unlikely that at that time both the pyramids and the sphinx were located directly on the shore.

Hotel Transylvania: Transformania

Mavis, like any decent vampire, is afraid of the light. So when she has to go in search of her family members, she wears elbow-length black gloves and a long hooded cloak. But for some reason, while travelling in the blimp, Mavis is able to stand right by the window, in direct sunlight.

Thor: Ragnarok

It seems that one of the inhabitants of Asgard isn’t too distraught by the loss of his world. Or maybe it’s just that the extra didn’t hear the director’s command and continued to look directly into the camera.

Green Book

Do you see a camera here? Right there in the reflection of the pianist Don Shirley’s glasses. This shot flashes for just a brief moment, before the cameraman seems to choose a different angle.

Mamma Mia!

Donna (Meryl Streep) is wonderful with the drill and easily fixes the window shutter that recently broke. But how does she manage it without a drill bit?

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

In the scene where Ron is playing magic chess and prepares for a decisive battle with the queen, a completely different young man appears in the frame for a couple of seconds. This is Rupert Grint’s stunt double. Most likely, the editors decided that no one would press pause and analyse the expression on the actor’s face during such a tense moment in the film.

Spencer

At the beginning of the film, we are shown Princess Diana driving a car. When filmed from the side, the actress’s hair is blowing in the wind, but the trouble is that none of the gauges on the control panel are moving. Both the rev-counter and the speedometer are on “0”.

Ratatouille

Remy the rat learned how to control Linguini’s movements: he pulled the cook’s strand of hair on the corresponding side. Everything was going well right up until the scene when Remy pulled the strand of hair on the right side of Linguini’s head, but his left arm was the one that moved. It seems the animators got a little confused since the cook’s arms were originally crossed.

Magic in the Moonlight

When Sophie asks Stanley and his aunt where she can make a phone call, she is sent somewhere far into the back of the house. But at the end of the film we see the main character talking on the phone that’s located almost immediately at the entrance, exactly where the aforementioned action takes place.

Bonus: the mistake that turned into a prophecy

The counsellors from Addams Family Values decide to “re-educate” Wednesday, Pugsley and their new friend Joel and show them a good family film. One of the kids exclaims: “That’s Disney!” and then a tune from “The Sound of Music,” a film released by 20th Century Fox, starts playing. 20th Century Fox is, indeed, a part of Disney. But only since 2019.

Do you get annoyed at the filmmakers for such blunders, or do you think that these small mistakes only make the films more beautiful?
