DC Star John Cena Fulfilled More Than 650 Children’s Wishes and Made It to the Guinness Book of World Records
“The Prototype” on the ring, “Peacemaker” on the big screen — it’s John Cena! The fans are used to associating John with a mountain of muscles, a great sense of humor, and self-irony. But the actor is in the Guinness Book of World Records thanks to his big and good heart. We’re going to tell you how Cena found enough power in himself to make hundreds of children around the world happy.
John was bullied at school.
John was born and raised in a small town in Massachusetts. It’s hard to believe, but Cena was bullied when he was a child. “As a young kid — 11, 12 years old — I was heavily picked on and bullied because of choices of dress and music that I listened to. And I was really scrawny like 100 pounds”.
At around the same time, the future WWE star started to hit the weights. As a result, by the age of 17, he already weighed 225 lbs. With such a physical shape and strong mindset, he got into college, where he played football and even became team captain.
He worked as a toilet cleaner.
Cena’s father worked as a ring-side announcer, so John had been familiar with the world of wrestling since he was a child. After finishing college, he went to California with $500 in his pocket. On his path to glory and recognition, Cena had to sleep in his car and work as a toilet cleaner and limo driver.
As we know, Cena managed to become part of the main WWE team. He won 25 championships and got the love and recognition of the public. The next step for him was Hollywood.
He didn’t want to become an actor.
Cena’s acting career started thanks to WWE. John himself didn’t dream of becoming a movie star, but the company saw a chance to develop and gain a new audience. So, the film The Marine was released, followed by several similar action movies.
Cena’s true success happened in the comedy genre. It turned out that the wrestler had an innate talent to make people laugh and laughing at himself. A small role in Trainwreck with Amy Schumer was such a big hit that John continued to work in this direction. After the release of Suicide Squad 2, where Cena played Peacemaker, he got a spin-off series.
He lost a girlfriend because he didn’t want kids.
John Cena is not secretive about his personal life. He’s married to artist and engineer Shay Shariatzadeh. And before that, he used to date a wrestling colleague, Nikki Bella. He even proposed to her on the ring, but he didn’t want to have children, so they broke up.
Cina shared that he had a vasectomy last year. The thing is, he doesn’t want to become a father. “I think just because you might be good at something, for me, is not a strong enough reason to do that.”
He fulfilled the wishes of hundreds of kids.
The fact that Cena doesn’t want to have his own children doesn’t mean John doesn’t like kids. It’s actually the opposite. For 20 years, John has been working with the Make-A-Wish foundation. It’s a charity organization that helps fulfill the wishes of terminally ill kids aged between 2 and 18.
The most popular wish kids have are trips with their families, tickets to Disneyland, and meeting a star. Cena has fulfilled the last wish in this list more than 650 times. “If you ever need me for this ever, I don’t care what I’m doing, I will drop what I’m doing and be involved because I think that’s the coolest thing.”
He’s in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Cena even set a big record and made it to the Guinness Book of World Records. In the 42-year history of Make-A-Wish, nobody had fulfilled more than 400 wishes. And John raised the bar tremendously. As of today, he’s made more than 650 wishes come true. And it doesn’t seem like he’s going to stop.
He became the most requested star of the charity foundation.
John Cena is the most popular celebrity of Make-A-Wish. Maybe the kids are reaching out to him because they feel that he still has that inner child in him and continues to live and love life and the people around him.
Meetings with kids always go in the atmosphere of love and joy. Following tradition, Cena brings one of his championship belts (and he’s got more than 13) for kids to try on. John says that he wants to show the world that the true champions here are these kids.
