19 Tattoos That Seem to Reflect Their Owners’ Soul

People have had tattoos for centuries. They were signs of distinction for warriors and other tribe members, symbols of belonging to different criminal gangs, or talismans for sailors. Nowadays, people get their tattoos for the sake of self-expression and decoration, or to honor some important personal events.

At CHEERY, we love unique tattoos and the stories behind them.

1. “I had this drawing that my daughter made for me when she was 5 years old tattooed on my left forearm. I loved how the artist kept all the ’imperfections’ that made it unique.”

2. “My first tattoo. Each tree symbolizes a loved one in my life, the faded one is for my mom who passed.”

3. “My fresh tattoo based on the picture of my wife sewing her wedding dress. I’m very happy with this work.”

4. “My best friend with his best smile.”

5. “The wife and I got tattoos of a diagram depicting the position of the planets as they were the exact time we got married.”

6. “I got this done with my best mate.”

7. “Tea is very important at my grandma’s house, and everyone has an assigned teacup with a particular pattern. Mine is a Brigadoon Scottish Thistle.”

“I’ve drunk tea from that cup my entire life, every time I visited my grandma. Today I got the pattern tattooed as a band on my arm.”

8. “My daughter’s voice saying ’I love you, Baba’.”

9. “I lost my old boy Sebastian last month. I had my first tattoo in his honor.”

10. “We get matching tattoos for all the trips we take together. It rained all week for this one.”

11. “After being blind for 14 years and being told I’d never fit into the stereotype because I didn’t ’look blind’, I decided to get a tattoo with my cane as a response.”

12. “I got this in memory of my sister. It always made me laugh the way she drew people.”

13. “My husband and I in front of the mountain we each have tattooed above our hearts. We got married with Mount Begbie behind us and got the tattoos for our first anniversary.”

14. “Ginkgo leaves were my great-grandmother’s favorite and her love for them was passed down through the strong, enduring, hopeful women in my family.”

15. “My husband and I got matching tattoos. All the moons represent a different day in our relationship. Down — first kiss, middle — proposal, up — wedding day.”

16. “Matching tattoos. A decade of friendship, one side of the square for each of us.”

17. “The reverse image of my wife’s pregnant bust as mountains, with stars for my kids. Designed by me.”

18. “Tattoo from my baby blanket”

19. «Crocheted acorn. My wife brought me the homemade one on our first date.»
