10 Times Celebrities Admitted That They Regret Wearing Certain Red Carpet Outfits
Outfits are an essential part of celebrities’ image. People follow stars’ red carpet walks, discuss new dresses and suits, and remember the most iconic looks the red carpet has ever seen. However, not every outfit turns out to be celebrities’ best choice. Sometimes, it is the failure the stars can’t forget.
1. Jennifer Lawrence
The actress appeared at the premiere of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire in a sheer Dior Haute Couture gown. Although the outfit looked stunning, Lawrence actually didn’t like it. Later, she said on Good Morning America: “I think any time a girl has to show her thighs it’s never going to be her favorite look. I love the dress — if someone else wore it.”
2. Mariah Carey
Speaking about her style at the beginning of her career, Mariah Carey remembers how she fought against the total-black outfits her stylists used to dress her in. “They did [put me in a lot of blacks],” she recalls. “It was just like, ahhh, such a long story. You don’t even wanna know.”
3. Diane Kruger
Fashion risks don’t always pay off, even when you work with a trusted design team. For her first Golden Globe, Diane Kruger wore a dress that she thinks was one of the worst outfits in her career. “I love [the designers], and I don’t know why we talked ourselves into this dress,” Kruger shares.
“It was gold, and my belly was exposed, but I decided to do retro hair — I had a short bob then. It was not a good look, and I think that will be remembered.”
4. Kate Hudson
Sometimes, it is not clear what is not working in the outfit. In 2001, Kate Hudson got the dress of her dreams. “I was 21 years old and to have Stella McCartney dressing me — well, I felt like the hippest, coolest girl in the world,” Hudson remembers. However, the next day, Kate “turned on the television to find out I was on every Worst Dressed list possible.”
“So I called Stella, and we just laughed, and she said to me, ’Look babe, it was the hair, wasn’t it?’” laughs Hudson.
5. Jonas Brothers
Searching for their unique style, the Jonas Brothers went through “dark times.”
“I think we all had an Ed Hardy phase, where you had the hat, and the T-shirt, and the shoes — and the jeans, if you were lucky!” shares Nick Jonas, speaking about his biggest fashion regrets. “Head to toe. Dark times. But we gotta go through the fire to come out knowing what to wear without looking insane.”
6. Ashley Tisdale
Sometimes, fashion failures are not a tragedy but rather a reason to laugh at yourself. Ashley Tisdale, for example, adores, as she says, one of the weirdest looks in her life. “I wore this really weird pink camo skirt and this pink furry thing, I don’t even know what it was, but I said, ’Ooh, put me in it!’” she recalls. “And instead of wearing it like you would normally wear it, I was like, ’I am going to do it, have one of my arms out and have it going across my body.’
“At that point, you just have to laugh at yourself!” she says.
7. Gwyneth Paltrow
Sometimes an outfit by itself can look awesome, but then turn into a regrettable look when combined with the wrong hair and makeup. Paltrow admitted that she doesn’t like how she styled her Alexander McQueen gown at the 2002 Oscars. “There were a few issues; I still love the dress itself but I should have just had simple beachy hair and less makeup,” she said. “Then, it would have worked as I wanted it to — a little bit of punk at the Oscars.”
8. Zendaya
Today, each time Zendaya steps on the red carpet, her looks are discussed, and fans are looking for another reference her outfit makes for the movies she stars in. However, even Zendaya had a fashion failure at the beginning of her career. When asked about her biggest fashion regret, “A long floral dress I paired with booties,” she remembered.
“It wasn’t very flattering—I hadn’t gotten that far in my style evolution yet. I was 13 at the time, but still.”
9. Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus loves controversial outfits, but there’s one in particular that the singer has admitted she regrets. She once commented on her hippie-inspired look for Justin Bieber’s documentary premiere: “I had some shady wardrobe choices when I was about 16 to 18. I wore this hippie outfit to Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never premiere.”
10. Eva Mendes
Sometimes it’s not just because of the clothing that it looks wrong, it’s about the way the whole look works together. Eva Mendes believes that this was the case with the outfit she once wore. “It was a beautiful dress, but the way I put everything together, it was a Princess Jasmine gone wrong,” she shares. “The strapless, purple dress with necklaces and hair in a really high braid. It’s not a good look.”
